Understanding User Behavior with Website Heatmaps & Session Replays
Find out exactly where your users are clicking and where they are getting stuck. Heatmaps take the guesswork out of Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO).
Traditional analytics platforms like Google Analytics are great for telling you how many people visited your site, but they are terrible at telling you what they did once they got there. This is where Website Heatmaps and Session Replays come in.
The Power of Visual Analytics
A heatmap provides a visual representation of how users interact with your web pages. Hotter colors (reds and yellows) show areas of high engagement, while cooler colors (blues) show areas that are ignored.
Click Maps & Rage Clicks
Click maps show exactly where users are clicking. You might discover that users are frantically clicking an image that they think is a button (this behavior is called a "Rage Click"), or completely ignoring your primary Call to Action (CTA).
Step-by-Step Guide: How to Install the Tracker
Implementing our Heatmap tracker is incredibly easy. Because it relies on a secure script injection, you must be a verified user to generate an API key.
-
1Register & Create a Project
First, register your account. Since heatmaps require isolated data streams, you will be prompted to create your first "Project". Name it after your website. -
2Navigate to the Integrations Panel
Head over to your Project Settings and find the Tracking Snippet section. -
3Inject the Script
Copy the lightweight, async<script>tag provided. Paste this code directly into the<head>section of your website's HTML, right before the closing</head>tag. It won't slow down your page load times! -
4View the Magic
Within minutes of users visiting your site, data will begin flowing. Navigate to the Heatmap Viewer to see the thermal overlay applied directly over screenshots of your website!
Pro Tip: Time Travel
Our heatmap tool includes a "Time Machine" feature. If you redesign your webpage, we automatically archive old screenshots so your historical click data continues to align perfectly with how the site used to look! To lock in your first snapshot, sign up and install the script.
